Shakuhachi Concert presented by:
Nora Nohraku Suggs
The shakuhachi, a traditional Japanese bamboo flute was initially played by Zen Buddhist monks as a spiritual tool to seek enlightenment. Most of the solo music for shakuhachi is almost four centuries old and is considered to be some of the most haunting and meditative music of any culture.
Now and Zen, contemporary shakuhachi music, blends this tradition with cross-cultural influences from around the world — past and present swirled together in today’s smaller world.
