I don’t think any of us could have imagined that we would have woken up in the middle of a pandemic, see the stock market drop 30%, and witness all schools and nonessential businesses closed.  These are times that can make day to day routines seem difficult, but in these times resiliency can be a light at the end of all of this turmoil.   Every day for the last week, we have seen a steady stream of families, couples and dogs with their owners enjoying the paths in Kalmbach. There is something wonderful about getting out and being close to nature.

Coretta Scott King understood the importance of community when she said, “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”  I have seen in the last two weeks members of different communities around the world and locally join together to ensure that those that need help at home are taken care of.  Small book share libraries have now become food pantries for those who need food, families dropping off meals to their elderly parents, students taking supplies to elderly that can’t get out and most importantly, community members reaching out on social media to see if anyone in their community needs anything.

The new term “social distancing” is now part of our everyday existence, but our physical distancing actually has us reaching out more emotionally to connect with each other within our community.  The COVID-19 is seriously taking a toll on society and on the beliefs of how life should be, but it did not know how strong our community is and how together we will move forward after this. Our community of Macungie will get through this.        Kalmbach Park will be there for all as a place for healing…

See you along the path…
